Practice Basic Hygiene One of the most effective ways to keep your children
healthy during the winter is to encourage them to wash their hands. Viruses are
spread easily when an infected individual touches, sneezes or coughs on a
surface, so cleaning their hands regularly will help to prevent them from
becoming ill.
Additionally, you can book a children’s flu vaccine to help protect your
youngster and prevent the spread of illnesses. It is highly effective in ages
between 2 and 17 and is available as a nasal spray or injection.
Dress Appropriately Children love colder weather, especially if it has
snowed or there is a layer of ice on puddles. Playing outdoors and getting
plenty of exercise is certainly beneficial for their health, but you should
ensure that they are wearing an appropriate number of layers.
If you are unsure of how many layers they need, add one
more than you feel comfortable wearing. Some examples of appropriate clothing
for cold weather include:
Loose-Fitting
Jumper Windproof Jacket Gloves Hat & Scarf Wellies Additionally, youngsters can still become sunburnt in
the winter, especially when the sun’s rays reflect off snow. Because of this,
sun cream should be used throughout the year.
More Winter Health Tips Some additional tips for keeping your children healthy
during the winter include:
Ensure They Get
Plenty of Sleep Keep Them Well
Hydrated Encourage a
Varied Diet Eating a wide range of fruit and vegetables, drinking
plenty of water and sleeping well all contribute to having a healthy and
effective immune system. Young children should get about 10 hours of sleep per
night and be eating at least 5 different types of fruit and vegetables a day.
